Springbank – A beautiful malt at a beautiful price!

Springbank 10 Year Old Whisky

For those of you who are not familiar with Springbank, you should know that they are one of the last independent, family-owned distilleries left in Scotland. They make Scotch the traditional way, cutting the peat and carting it to the distillery, malting the barley by hand, filling the bottles, applying the labels, packing the boxes…everything that Springbank does is in the old, traditional manner because that works for them, and their whisky is a testament to it. Of course, all of the above steps cost money, because making whisky without the aid of computers and robots requires humans. If you want to taste good whisky made by humans then Springbank might just be for you!

Springbank 10 Year Old Single Malt Scotch

Springbank 10 Year Old is the perfect introduction into the Springbank portfolio, a marriage of ex-bourbon and sherry casks and a malt that is free from chill filtration and caramel color. This is a coastal malt, the nose brimming with sea spray, barley, vanilla, and a hint of peat. The palate is rich and viscous, with juicy barley, saltwater taffy, sherry notes, and a wisp of smoke leading into a medium finish that stays with you for quite awhile.

Springbank 10 Yr

And the verdict? A delicious maritime dram; however, this might be your last chance to pay under $60 for a bottle of Springbank, as the whisky is about to incur a price increase. I negotiated a deal with my supplier to get one last shipment in before that happens so you have been warned. At just $53.99 a bottle we are sitting at the lowest price in the nation, how long we can hold out is anyone’s guess!

About Denis Lynch

I am a true homegrown Irishman hailing from the only county you really need to know about, Cork. Whiskey, beer, wine and all manner of spirits are in my blood (figuratively speaking of course!). I first started my career in my Great Aunty Maisey’s pub in New Tipperary, Donoughmore, pouring pints and small drops to the auld lads after the fair. Little did I think back then that I would be taking a short hop, skip and a jump over to the U.S of A. But here I am and I have been with Vine & Table since the beginning. I am now the stores Beverage Manager and Spirits Buyer. I like to think that I have found my niche here in the US. I have a great love for all things spirits-wise and have developed our offerings here at Vine & Table to include the best Single Malt selection in Indiana. Pop in and see me for a chinwag and a small drop next time you are in Carmel. Slainte, Denis
