My Future Husband

In the wine world anyway.

If you’ve learned anything about me these past few months, it’s that I love Rosé wines in the summer.  I feature them a lot in our tastings here at Vine & Table:  they’re perfect for this time of year, and they’re so misunderstood and underappreciated that someone’s got to spread the word.  You might just call me Ms. Rosé. There’s someone else you might know who loves Rosé even more than I do: Mr. Charles Bieler of Charles and Charles wines. Having a father who has produced some of the finest Rosé wines in the world, Beiler Pere et Fils Rosé and Chateau Routas Rosé for example, it’s no wonder Charles has a special liking for this wine.  It’s obviously in his DNA.

And how much does someone love a wine that he would don a pink suit and pink top hat and drive around the United States, in a pink ’65 Cadillac DeVille no less, pouring Rosé for anyone who had an empty glass?  That kind of passion for a wine apparently does not go unnoticed.  Based on a 2009 study, Rosé consumption is expected to increase 60 million bottles by 2012.  It’s a pink revolution I say!  So to be sure you’re in on the ground floor…

What should you know about Rosé?

  • Rosé is not sweet, unless you ask for a sweet one
  • Rosé can be fermented in casks or barrels
  • Rosé is produced all over the world
  • Rosé comes from different varietals ex: Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon
  • Rosé pairs well with seafood, smoked salmon, ham, salty foods, spicy Thai food, Cajun food, soft goat cheese including Humbolt Fog and Purple Haze
  • Last but certainly not least, Rosé is not just for girls.  It’s the one pink drink you’ll actually like.

All kidding aside, Rosé is a wine drinker’s summer wine.  With a similar taste profile to wines you already drink, you might surprise yourself and fall in love with the light and refreshing Rosé.

As for my future husband, let’s just say I already know what wine will be served on our big day.

Charles & Charles Rosé 2010: Dry – Wild strawberries and raspberries with some sage, rose petals.
Etude Pinot Noir Rosé 2009 & 2010: Dry – Strawberries, cherries, vibrant, juicy and watermelon.
Gruet Rosé, NV: Dry – Strawberry, raspberry, and cherry.
