Fall into great wines, great value, and vodka at October’s Pick 24 Party!

Pick 24 Wine Event Carmel Indianapolis

“October, and the trees are stripped bare of all they wear, what do I care…” As Bono and the boys of U2 once lamented, the onset of autumn can be both bleak and beautiful. Fortunately, Vine & Table’s Pick 24 Release Party on Wednesday, October 2 from 5:30-7:00 will focus on the beauty of fall and lead us into the season of colorful leaves and cooler temperatures with an emphasis on delicious red wines and one very special guest!

We’ll be featuring a few Australian reds that are a great transition after a summer of rosés. One of our favorites is Wirra Wirra’s Scrubby Rise Red Shiraz blend, with its flavors of raspberry, blackberry, and subtle oak. The bouquet trends towards fresh ripe red fruits with a nice underlay of mocha. An unusual combination of shiraz, cabernet sauvignon, and- wait for it- Petit Verdot aged 12 months in American and French oak makes for an elegant, well-structured wine.

Jim Barry’s The Lodge Hill Shiraz 2011 will also be available to taste- this wine exhibits tart blackberry and jammy strawberry on the nose, but becomes a bit stouter when you taste it, as masculine tannins and black pepper emerge. The Lodge Hill Shiraz also carries some chocolate notes and has a long, juicy, and slightly spicy finish- perfect for those first chilly nights of the season!

Allegrini Palazzo della Torre 2008Our distributors will also be on hand with some fabulous Italian wines to warm up those crisp autumn evenings. Allegrini Palazzo della Torre 2008 is a great place to start. Ranked #60 on Wine Spectator’s 2011 Top 100 list (and on sale in October for only $15.99!), this is a complex wine blended from Corina Veronese, Rondinella, and Sangiovese grapes. Black fruits and juicy blackberry are balanced with a bright, nuanced acidity and refined tannins. This wine is put together well and will drink beautifully over the next 5 to 7 years; if you love it as much as we do, you might want to consider buying a case.

Il Borro Pian di Nova IGT 2010 is a lovely, lush Italian red with tart Bing cherry, fuzzy dry tannins, fresh wild berries, and hints of dark espresso. A blend of 75% Syrah and 25% Sangiovese, this wine pairs beautifully with Italian pasta dishes, as it carries hints of olive and dill that add a luxurious depth and enhance the tasting experience. It has enough structure to stand up to hearty foods, while at the same time the dominant Syrah keeps Il Borro Pian di Nova supple and easy to drink. Yum!

Tommasi Valpolicella 2010We’ll also have some interesting Valpolicellas open, including Cesari Valpolicella Ripasso and Tommasi Valpolicella 2010. The Cesari is a notably smooth and elegant wine, presenting ripe fruit, cherries, and a touch of graphite on the palate. The finish is perfect for a cool autumn evening, as it is long and warming, and pairs great with foods like roast pork and baked chicken. Tommasi is a blend of 60% Corvina Veronese, 25% Rondinella, and 15% Molinara and spends 15 months aging in large Slavonian oak casks. The nose is rich in dried spices, leather and cherry. Flavors here are intense, leaning on black cherry, plum, and pomegranate while also incorporating a spiciness that makes it difficult to stop sipping. This wine would be great with a platter of cured meats and aged cheese.

And when you get tired of wine (as if that’s likely to happen!) you can make your way to a special guest at October’s Pick 24 Party- Christine England, U.S. Belvedere Brand Ambassador. You can meet Christine at the tasting bar, where she’ll be promoting the new Belvedere Unfiltered 80 proof vodka, which is arguably one of the best vodkas on the market today. She’ll be mixing up a few fun cocktails as well, so be sure to stop by when you’re ready for something a little stronger than wine.

All in all this promises to be another fabulous, fun, FREE tasting event at Vine & Table- register now and we’ll see you there!
